Volunteer Opportunities

We have volunteer opportunities to help Get Out the Vote on election day, Tuesday November 5th, at Richland, Mountain View, and Eastfield Campuses. Visit our Volunteer Opportunities page to sign up.

Make a Voting Plan

Election day is this week, Tuesday November 5th! If you didn't vote early, make a voting plan with VOTE411 so you're prepared on the big day. Locate where you can vote on election day, what will be on the ballot, and what to bring to the polls. Get Your Voting Info.

You can also access an interactive map of Election Day voting locations on the Dallas County Elections website.

Ballots by Mail

Tracking Your Ballot by Mail: You can track the progress of your ballot during the election cycle by logging on to the Ballot by Mail Tracker at votetexas.gov.

Curing Defects: The Dallas Co Elections Dept is currently notifying voters in writing if the carrier envelope for their ballot is defective.

Below is a list of four defects that can be cured:

1. The Carrier Envelope was not signed.

2. The Carrier Envelope contained incomplete information with respect to a witness.

3. The Carrier Envelope contained incomplete information with respect to an assistant.

4. Your identification information did not match the identification information associated with your voter registration record.

A full description of these four defects and the methods for curing them can be found in the Notice of Carrier Defect Issued by the Early Voting Clerk.

Any defects will also be noted in abbreviated form at the Ballot by Mail Tracker. A few of these abbreviations are listed HERE.

Note: As of the date of publication, several questions about specific situations encountered by LWV Dallas members are still pending with the Dallas County Elections. Answers will be published when received.

Delivering the Ballot: Ballots can be returned in-person on Election Day ONLY to 1520 Round Table Dr. Only the voter can deliver their Mail Ballot in-person, and must show an acceptable photo ID. Ballots must be delivered by 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5th.

Cancelling Your Ballot by Mail: If you do not wish to correct the defect, or have trouble understanding how to correct it, you may still vote in person by cancelling your Ballot by Mail. If you cancel your Ballot by Mail in person at the Dallas County Elections Department, you will be given a Notice of Surrendered Ballot to take to the polls. This entitles you to vote a regular ballot. If you do not cancel at the Dallas County Elections Department, you will be able to vote a Provisional Ballot at the polling place.

LWVD accepts UN Global Leadership Day Award

The League of Women Voters Dallas was honored to accept a UN Global Leadership Day Award on October 17th. We were awarded for our work related to gender equality. Read LWVD President Sandy Thornton's acceptance speech below!

"Thank you for this award to the League of Women Voters of Dallas for Gender Equality. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are pillars of the League of Women Voters.  Historically, we did not follow through for equality or voting rights for all women, but thankfully, we have turned that position around.   While adopting the Nineteenth Amendment gave white women the right to vote, it wasn’t until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that this was rectified to allow all women to vote.  In 1973, we amended our charter to allow men to be members.  I even have a League tee shirt that says “Not for Women Only.”

The promise of democracy cannot be fulfilled until all citizens of the United States have equality and equity. When we all take that promise to heart and show through our actions that “liberty and justice for all” is not a slogan or words without meaning, we will achieve that promise.

Our organization strongly supports Gender Equality for all and is making a solid effort this year to get the Equal Rights Amendment recognized in the U.S. Constitution, a crucial and urgent step towards ensuring equal rights for all.

Remembering Annie Jones

Annie Jones lived such a remarkable life and made such a profound impression on those who knew her.  If you would like to share your memories about Annie or comment on what she meant to you, you can send a note to Linda Wassenich at 5221 Pebblebrook Dr., Dallas, TX 75229.  Your notes will be compiled in a notebook about Annie and kept in the League office.  From time to time, ideas from the notes may be used in articles in the VOTER or in letters to League supporters, thus continuing to share Annie's wisdom into the future.
